Project Starbuck is the local organization created to implement the ideas of the Minnesota Design Team (MDT) architects, economic developers and others who visited Starbuck in April 2001 to give their ideas for how we can enhance and beautify our community.
Project Starbuck works with other service organizations to plan and implement projects and to raise funds for those projects. Since last April we have organized, met with resource providers and established an account with the Starbuck Community Fund.
In addition, the group has worked on the first of its major initiatives on the east side of Starbuck that will welcome people to the community. A committee of volunteers has been meeting with Minnesota Department of Transportation representatives, creating a design and locating a site the gateway, which will be an attractive wood and stone structure using the lighthouse theme recommended by the MDT. The gateway will be a very appealing addition to our community and all will be very exited to see it implemented this spring.
Other projects include a new boathouse near the city beach, creation of a town square, narrowing of Highway 29 and 5th Street and adding tree-lined boulevards along these roadways, moving of the lighthouse at the marina and building a boardwalk from downtown to the marina.
