This year’s grand marshals have been devoted community members for over 25 years. Both have poured their hearts and souls into Starbuck since moving here and can be frequently seen at community events.
One of the recipients has always put the health and well-being of the community first while remaining what some would call a ‘jokester.’ This person has been an integral part of the local COVID-19 response and has helped numerous people through the pandemic, as well as helping people through their own personal struggles. As mentioned, they also have their fun side… they’ve paddled on teams in the annual Dragon Boat races every year, since Starbuck’s very first Dragon Boat weekend, and can often be seen enjoying the festivities during Heritage Days. Always one to rush in and help, he has risen to every challenge presented to him.
The second recipient could be considered the voice of reason to our first recipient… but they’re more than that. Their passion for the community can be seen through the various jobs they’ve held and projects they’ve been a part of since first moving to the area. From working for the Starbuck Chamber, to helping found the passion project that we now know as Glacial Hills Elementary School, they’ve helped shape the community into what it is today. She can always be seen during Heritage Days, helping coordinate the Miss Minnewaska program and making sure those queen candidates know what’s happening over the weekend.
Together, they’ve been married for 30 years. They have always strived to make Starbuck a community everyone would love to call home. During their free time in the summer, they can often be seen at the Starbuck lighthouse sign on the east side of town, making sure it looks spectacular for those who see it when visiting.
Their greatest passion would be their family. They’ve raised two children, who are now adults, and are proud grandparents to a three-year-old who affectionately calls them Papa and Grandma.
Congratulations to this year’s Starbuck Heritage Days Grand Marshals, Greg and Nancy Rapp.
