Shari Opdahl is the Volunteer of the Year

Shari Opdahl was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award by Karen Tharaldson at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting February 1st.

We all may have different jobs and interests, but we all have something in common and that is our admiration for someone who never quits, always says “yes” and brings our community joy through acts big and small.

A sense of community and volunteering was instilled in this person at a young age. She was born and raised in Starbuck and is committed to seeing it thrive and prosper. She has volunteered to help with many of the community events, and as the music teacher at Glacial Hills Elementary, she made sure that her students were available to provide musical entertainment for community events such as Lefse Dagen and Eple Tiden. She has also helped her students showcase their musical talents through the community Veteran’s Day program each November, and the tradition she started carries on with the new music instructor hired upon her retirement. She has gathered students, parents and other community members to provide music for Memorial Day programs as well. This community member also gets her family involved to help and they’ve taken on volunteer projects for Heritage Days and the Dragon Boat races. She has brought a smile to many faces at the Nursing home and Holly Ridge by volunteering to provide music for birthday parties. She has also volunteered for numerous events at Fron Lutheran Church. Shari Opdahl’s enthusiasm to assist in the community of Starbuck is truly appreciated and she is well deserving of this award.
